Evan Handler, who co-stars as “Charlie” in Showtime’s “Californication” airing tonight.
Last book I bought:
“God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything” by Christopher Hitchens and “The Happiest Toddler on the Block” by Harvey Karp, M.D. and Paula Spencer
Book I’m reading:
“The Happiest Toddler on the Block” — Gotta know how to handle the temper tantrums before we tell her there’s no God.
Total number of books I own:
A few hundred, several of which I’ve actually read.
Three books that mean a lot to me:
“White Noise” by Don DeLillo
“Sabbath’s Theater” by Philip Roth
“Time on Fire” by Evan Handler — There, now I can say my book has been mentioned alongside DeLillo and Roth in Variety.
Last film I saw:
Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman’s “Born Into Brothels,” Neil Burger’s “The Illusionist” and Yimou Zhang’s “Raise the Red Lantern” — all in one night. Just got the big screen TV and couldn’t stop looking at it.
Three films that mean a lot to me:
“Dog Day Afternoon,” directed by Sidney Lumet
“The Accidental Tourist,” directed by Lawrence Kasden
“All the President’s Men,” directed by Alan J. Pakula
Last CD I bought:
“Children Running Through,” Patty Griffin — Or, well…I didn’t actually buy it. But it’s the newest addition.
Song currently playing:
“Rockhouse Parts 1 &2,” Ray Charles — We dance to it with our baby every day.
Three Songs that mean a lot to me:
Tied for first: 67 different songs by Bob Dylan
“Sweet Thing,” Van Morrison
“I Second that Emotion,” Smokey Robinson and the Miracles — played at the wedding and all that
I like to drink good wines.
Leukemia Society of America, Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Greenpeace — Why three books, three movies, three songs, but just one charity, one vacation, one vice, and one drink?
Every vacation is a good vacation. That said, I like to drive up to Big Sur. Or fly to Italy (my wife is from Bologna). Oh, and I’d like to go back to Australia someday.

John Roberts, Anthony Kennedy, Antonin Scalia, Samuel Alito and (especially) Clarence “Long Dong Silver” Thomas – If they’d ever tell the truth.
