Writer, media critic Seipp dies

Columnist known for distinctive commentary

Writer and media critic Catherine Seipp died of lung cancer March 21 in Los Angeles. She was 49.

Seipp’s column “Our Times” for Buzz magazine, written under the pseudonym Margo Magee, won fans for humorously skewering the L.A. Times. After Buzz folded, she wrote for MediaWeek, UPI and Salon.

Seipp recently wrote the popular blog Cathy’s World and contributed to National Review Online and the Independent Women’s Forum. She also was a regular guest on CNBC’s “The Dennis Miller Show.”

Born in Winnipeg, Canada, Seipp moved to Los Alamitos as a child and attended UCLA. She went on to work for Associated Press, California Apparel News and the Daily News in Los Angeles.

She is survived by a daughter, a sister and her mother and father.
