Time Warner honors Horn

WB's CEO feted with civic leadership award

Time Warner presented one of this year’s Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards to Alan Horn, prexy and chief operation officer of Warner Bros. Entertainment, in a Tuesday ceremony in Gotham.

Horn was feted with the civic leadership nod for his commitment to the environment. He is a founding board member of the Environmental Media Assn., which aims to raise environmental awareness using television and film, and vice chairman of the Natural Resources Defense Council.

The Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards, named for the late former chairman-CEO of Time Inc., celebrate volunteer and community service efforts within the company, which has some 89,000 employees worldwide. Heiskell, a philanthropist, founded the National Urban Coalition and aided a more than decade-long effort to restore Gotham’s Bryant Park.

Delece Jones, an executive assistant in business affairs and legal for HBO Films in Santa Monica, was one of nine individual employees honored with the community service nod. As a member of the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce, Jones helps coordinate the Watts Summer Games, an Olympics-style meet at which more than 7,000 inner-city youths compete.

The Community Service Team Award went to a group of 27 AOL employees from Dulles, Va., who work with Meals on Wheels to deliver food and provide company to homebound seniors.

Each recipient draws $5,000 from Time Warner — a $3,000 donation to the charity of his choice and a personal honorarium of $2,000 — while team award winners boast a $10,000 donation to their charity. Horn has requested that his $5,000 prize go to the Environmental Media Assn.
