Seven boards HBO’s ‘Pacific’

Australian network partners for miniseries

Free web the Seven Network announced Wednesday that it has inked as a production partner in HBO Films’ Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman miniseries “The Pacific.”

Ten-parter about U.S. Marines and their experiences of war in the Pacific is a follow-up to the boffo success “Band of Brothers.”

“The Pacific” is a huge local production to be filmed at Melbourne’s Central City Studios in Docklands and on location in Queensland and New South Wales later this year.

“This is one of the biggest productions ever undertaken in Australia with filming across three states and over many weeks,” Seven programming and production topper Tim Worner said of the web’s involvement. “Seven is proud to have been chosen as the Australian partner and to be a part of something so crucial to the local production industry.”

Mini is based on the books “With the Old Breed,” by Eugene Sledge, and “Helmet for My Pillow,” by Robert Leckie, and will look at the war through the eyes of three Marines; mini is produced by HBO Films in association with Playtone and DreamWorks Television and in collaboration with Film Victoria, the Pacific Film & Television Commission, Ausfilm and the New South Wales Film & TV Office.
