Production and financing shingle QED Intl. has launched a TV production arm, and is simultaneously financing a second TV shingle.
In addition to bowing its QED TV unit, the company has signed on to partner and fund the launch of Manolin Entertainment, headed by former Paradigm agent Cal Boyington.
Boyington will serve as CEO of Manolin and work closely with QED in identifying new properties.
Timing is unfortunate for the company — scripted product won’t be available for the foreseeable future. For now, the companies are focused on several projects in development, including a book franchise-inspired gameshow, a pair of celebrity reality docu-sudsers and several properties spun off the Internet.
In addition to reality skeins, QED and Manolin plan to work on scripted dramas and comedies, specials and TV movies. The companies will also serve as distributors and licensors of their own product, they said.
QED Intl. CEO Bill Block announced the dual debuts Monday.
“QED TV has been set up as a creative, innovative and aggressive television production company that operates on a flexible business plan, which allows us to partner with the best cutting-edge executives in the evolving television landscape,” he said.
Boyington most recently served as a senior agent in Paradigm’s alternative series department, packaging shows including AMC’s “Shootout,” E!’s Snoop Dogg comedy “Father Hood,” and ABC’s “The Next Best Thing.”
Boyington’s resume also includes stints at ICM and King World.
“I have always greatly admired what Bill has accomplished as an agent, producer and entrepreneur,” Boyington said of partnering with QED.
QED TV’s first hire is development coordinator Lauren Rosenberg. In film, the company’s upcoming entries include the Peter Jackson-helmed “District 9.”
