Reality contest to bow during 'Idol' finale week
Fox has moved the premiere date for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming reality contest “On the Lot” — giving it an even bigger showcase.
“Lot” will now preem on Tuesday, May 22, behind the final performance episode of “American Idol.” The second episode will then run on Thursday, May 24 — a day after the two-hour “Idol” finale (and paired with the third season launch of “So You Think You Can Dance”).
“Lot” was originally slated to debut on Wednesday, May 16, and then take a week off during “Idol” finale week (Daily Variety, Feb. 21).
Decision to launch “Lot” smack in the middle of the week comes as the net and producer Mark Burnett have also decided to air two audition episodes rather than one.
The rest of the “Lot” scheduling will continue as planned, starting with a special two-hour episode on Monday, May 28, and the first elimination show on Tuesday, May 29.
According to the net, the show’s Web site has already received 12,000 video submissions from wannabe moviemakers. Winner of the show, which comes from Mark Burnett Prods., DreamWorks TV and Amblin TV, receive a $1 million DreamWorks development deal.
