NBC serves up ‘Loser’ special

New season debuts Sept. 11 at 8 p.m.

For his first scheduling announcement at NBC, Ben Silverman didn’t have to look far.

The new NBC Entertainment/NBC Universal TV Studio co-chairman announced Monday that unscripted entry “The Biggest Loser” will return on Sept. 4 with a “Where Are They Now” special edition.

Peacock will then premiere the new season of “Loser” on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. with a two-hour bow. (“Loser” will air another two-hour seg the following week, before settling into its regular hourlong Tuesday slot.)

“This is an innovative way to re-introduce an audience favorite and answer the question everyone asks — ‘Did they keep the weight off?’ ” Silverman said.

“Biggest Loser” comes from Silverman’s Reveille shingle, making for the unusual prospect of him announcing a show for which he is an executive producer.

New season of “Biggest Loser” includes a new host, Alison Sweeney, and the return of former “Biggest Loser” trainer Jillian Michaels — whose new role on the show has been kept a secret. The “Where Are They Now” special will revisit contestants who have kept the weight off as well as those who put the pounds back on.

Reveille produces “Biggest Loser” with 25/7 Prods. and 3 Ball Prods. 3 Ball is behind the special “Science of Love: A Modern Dating Experiment,” which just landed a firm airdate of June 25.

Spesh will air after an edition of NBC’s similarly titled “Age of Love” and even boasts the same host, Mark Consuelos.

In the case of “Science,” the program centers on former NFL player Adam Johnson, who uses two services from Perfectmatch.com (which is sponsoring the show) to pick a pair of dates.
