'Anna Nicole,' 'Britney,' 'Hooters' on docket
MyNetworkTV, the struggling Fox-owned sixth broadcast net, has filled its May-sweep schedule with sex, comedy specials, theatrical movies and more sex.
The highlight is a May 16 primetime doubleheader consisting of hourlong docu “Anna Nicole Smith: Centerfold Revisited,” an update of an earlier MyNet special about Smith, and a second hour, “Britney Spears: A Pop Idol Exposed.” MyNet has commissioned the two biodocs from NBC Universal’s “Access Hollywood” production team.
“The Hooters Dream Girl Challenge” will fill the two hours of MyNet’s May 8 primetime sked. On April 24, the network puts on hourlong specials “Hawaiian Tropic Intl. Beauty Pageant” and “Ujena Bikini Jam.” A week later, on May 1, MyNet’s pair of 60-minute primetime specials are “America’s Trashiest Weddings” and “Body Doubles: Intl. Twins Search.”
Comedy takes over the MyNet lineup on May 22 with “Night of a Million Laughs: Comics Unleashed,” featuring Chris Rock, Chris Tucker and Martin Lawrence, and “Eddie Murphy: 25th Anniversary of ‘Delirious,’ ” celebrating his early ’80s standup concert.
MyNet has slotted two movies: “Chain Reaction,” with Keanu Reeves, on May 15, and “Lethal Weapon 4” on May 17.
For the sweep, MyNet’s two firstrun primetime telenovelas, “American Heiress,” which runs for two hours every Tuesday at 8, and “Saints & Sinners,” which plays for two hours on Wednesday at 8, will each lose one weekly hour. Net will slot them back to back on Wednesdays, “Heiress” at 8 and “Sinners” at 9, except for May 16, when the Smith and Spears hours will take over.
