Lee’s life story headed to CCTV

Broadcaster begins shooting on show

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has begun shooting a 40-part skein chronicling the life of Hong Kong chopsocky legend Bruce Lee.

“The Legend of Bruce Lee” started lensing over the weekend in Lee’s ancestral home in Shunde in Guangdong province. The $6.4 million dollar biographical skein about the San Francisco-born “Fists of Fury” star will also shoot in Hong Kong and the U.S.

Chen Guokun of “Kung Fu Hustle” fame will play the martial arts legend.

“I’m nervous and also excited, but I will do my best,” he told Chinese state media, adding that Lee had been his role model since he was a child.

The series is due to air in 2008, the year Beijing hosts the Olympic Games. China wanted to include kung fu in the games but was turned down, and organizers are planning a separate kung fu competition on the sidelines of the games.
