Exec signs deal to develop script with Haidle
Former WB Entertainment prexy David Janollari is ramping up his new production shingle, tapping Clay Spencer to head up development for the Warner Bros. TV-based unit.Janollari has also begun putting together potential projects for next season. He’s signed a deal to develop a script with Gotham playwright Noah Haidle (“Mr. Marmalade”). On the exec front, Janollari and Spencer already know each other well. Latter exec served as VP of drama development at the now-dead Frog net during Janollari’s tenure there. Before that, Spencer was veepee of development and production at the indie shingle headed by Janollari and former partner (and current Showtime entertainment prexy) Bob Greenblatt. “We have a long-term relationship going back to when Bob and I were doing ‘One on One,’ and Clay was our current exec at Paramount,” Janollari told Daily Variety. “He’s a good friend and a smart executive with terrific taste.” Because they know each other so well, Janollari said he and Spencer have been able to “hit the ground running with development,” including the Haidle project. At the Frog, Spencer helped develop and oversee production on skeins such as “Supernatural,” “Pepper Dennis,” “The Bedford Diaries” and “Smallville.” At Greenblatt Janollari, he developed both comedy and drama pilots and oversaw production on “Eve” and “One on One.” Spencer began his career at Paramount Network Television.
