Chang, Hartman, Shanks get promoted
The exit of DirectTV top execs David Hill and Dan Fawcett has triggered a series of promotions at the company.
Derek Chang has been upped to exec VP of content strategy and development and Dan Hartman to senior veep, programming acquisition. Chang now reports to DirecTV prexy-CEO Chase Carey, and Hartman will report to Chang.
Chang will oversee all programming strategy, development and acquisitions for the domestic DirecTV business. Hartman will assume day-to-day responsibilities, work with major programmers and negotiate the satcaster’s core programming rights.
DirecTV also announced that Eric Shanks, exec VP of entertainment, will now lead all of its entertainment efforts and also report directly to Carey. Together, Shanks and Chang will oversee the content, programming operations and content strategy for the satcaster.
Chang joined DirecTV in March of last year as senior veep, strategy and development, and was responsible for developing strategic business opportunities. Hartman, who joined DirecTV in 1998, was responsible for program acquisition activities for all general entertainment and premium cable networks and was programming liaison for DirecTV’s advanced products group.
Hill, who was in a dual role with DirecTV and Fox, has returned to Fox. Fawcett left DirecTV to become president of Fox Digital Media .
