Di Bona chooses ‘Funniest’ favorites

Producer picks top 9 from over 750,000 clips

Since the skein’s first special in 1989, there have been nearly 750,000 clips received at the production offices of “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” In no particular order but in his own words, here are some of Vin Di Bona’s favorites:

  • “There’s one of a little boy who’s maybe 2 out playing on a winter’s day. He’s all bundled up. The shadows are long cast on a winter’s day, and he finds his shadow and he tries to catch his shadow. It’s about a 40-second clip and it’s just charming.” (Season 14)

  • “Probably the most famous in recent years are the quads: the mom who has the quad girls. The father makes a funny noise, a gurgling noise, and all four girls giggle at the same time. Mom’s holding all four kids in her arms, and you can’t help but laugh. That clip goes on for 45 seconds to a minute.” (Season 11)

  • “The dog that is eating a bone and his hind leg comes up to scratch himself. He thinks it’s another dog and he sort of attacks his own foot. It’s a hysterical clip.” (Season 15)

  • “There is a practical joke where these guys come into a haunted house. The scarecrow in the haunted house comes alive and this full-grown man screams louder than anybody I’ve ever heard. He screams like a girl. It is absolutely fall-down funny.” (Season 5)

  • “A woman with this head of hair is on one of those rides that you see at Six Flags where they’re shot up in the air and they come down and they bounce around. The first thing you want to do is thin it out for her. But what makes the clip so great is the hair flops up and down as the ride goes up and down, and all she’s doing is screaming her brains out.” (Season 11)

  • “There’s this couple at the altar, and the minister says, ‘You may kiss the bride.’ And the guy takes out a breath freshener and squirts his mouth before he kisses the bride.” (Season 1)

  • “There’s the priest who inadvertently drops the Host into the bride’s bosom instead of her mouth. He goes to reach for it, and her new husband grabs his hand and pulls it away.” (Season 10)

  • “There’s the kid who’s in a long line at communion and he’s at the end of the line. He gets up to the priest, and the priest doesn’t see him. The priest walks away and the kid stands there dumbfounded.” (Season 13)

  • “There’s a rodeo rider who rides out on this bucking bronco. The horse falls over and does a turnabout on the ground. The rider is under him, but it happens so quickly he emerges still holding onto the horse, bucking, and wins the prize. It’s astounding.” (Season 1)
