ABC picks up 'Girls'
ABCPickup – “Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office,” comedy about a sane woman who tries to navigate the shark-infested corporate world. Inspired by the Dr. Lois Frankel book of the same name, “Nice Girls” comes from scribes Josh Sternin and Jeff Ventimilia, who will write and exec produce. David Nevins and Brian Grazer will also exec produce for Imagine TV, which is producing with 20th Century Fox TV. Pickup — Untitled Sachs and Judah comedy pilot, about pals who work at a law firm and are in competition to make partner. Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah wrote the project and will exec produce; Touchstone TV is behind the laffer. Staffing — Lawrence Trilling will direct the untitled Rena Mimoun dramedy about a family of lawyers. Helmer’s credits include “Brothers and Sisters,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” and “Invasion.” Staffing– Peter Horton is aboard to direct “Dirty Sexy Money.” His credits include the pilot for “Grey’s Anatomy.” FX Casting — Ted Danson has joined the cast of FX’s Glenn Close legal thriller (written by Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler). Show would rep Danson’s first-ever drama series role on cable. Danson, who’s committed to the series’ first season (if ordered), will play Arthur Frobisher, a corporate exec involved in a class-action lawsuit brought by the high-stakes litigator Patty Hewes (Close). Danson and Close starred together in the telepic “Something About Amelia,” which earned Danson a Golden Globe and both thesps Emmy noms. Pilot, to be helmed by Allen Coulter, begins production next week in New York.
