“The Office” has to be the front-runner and the odds-on favorite to win for a second year in a row. But it’s not a sure thing, given that there’s nothing the entertainment industry loves more than itself — and both “Entourage” and “30 Rock” are also nominated. Personally, I’d vote for “Ugly Betty,” which was the freshest and funniest of the nominees — although, as far as I’m concerned, the funniest comedy on TV this past season was the unnominated “The Class,” which CBS canceled, unless it was FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” which is so wrong and so funny.

Three of my favorite shows are in the running: “The Office,” “30 Rock,” and “Ugly Betty.” I think “The Office” will win. Why? Because I think the show’s stars and writers were on top of their game again this season, even more so than last season. And Emmy seems to have embraced the show. However, I’d like to see “30 Rock” — which I laugh out loud at while watching the interplay between Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin — nab Mr. Emmy.

My big Emmy disappointment again this year was no nomination for Lauren Graham. The woman carried “Gilmore Girls” on her shoulders and made it a long-running show for the then-WB and, in its last season, the CW. I just can’t believe she didn’t get a nomination. Major injustice, as I see it.

It’s gonna be Ugly.

Despite some stiff competition from “30 Rock,” the much-improved “Entourage” and the overrated “Office,” “Ugly Betty” was clearly the best comedy series on television last year. The cast jelled, the writing was fresh, crisp and intelligent. It was also great to see different ethnicities relating to each other without using insults or racial slurs to go for the quick funny. All of the episodes were enlightening, and some were even empowering. And by the end of the program, you couldn’t remember who was Latino, black, white, straight or gay. That’s why this show is a winner.

If “Entourage” is a comedy, somebody had better remind the show’s writers, because it hasn’t been funny for a while. This nomination is a make-good for failing to recognize “Entourage” for its far superior first and second seasons. It’s great to see “30 Rock” nominated … but the race just comes down to “Ugly Betty” and “The Office,” the flashy, heavily hyped newcomer and the defending champ, a show so good we almost take it for granted. Even though the “Ugly Betty” submission episode, its pilot, wasn’t the show’s best, I suspect it wins, riding on the coattails of America Ferrera, who’s pretty close to a shoo-in.
