Craig Silverstein stays at Fox

'Standoff' creator inks three-year deal

“Standoff” creator Craig Silverstein is staying at 20th Century Fox TV, inking a three-year overall deal with the studio.

As part of the pact, Silverstein has been named exec producer of “K-Ville,” the frosh cop drama created and exec produced by Jonathan Lisco. New Orleans-set skein is one of the studio’s big hopes for the fall, and sister net Fox has been giving the show a major promo push in recent weeks.

While “Standoff” lasted just one season, 20th moved quickly to extend its relationship with Silverstein. Studio had another year left on its old deal with the scribe but chose to throw out that pact in order to negotiate a new agreement.

“Every opportunity we get, we’re going to try to extend our deal with him,” said 20th Century Fox TV chair Dana Walden. “He’s a great utility player who can write any genre of television. And he’s been a really good partner to us by being on other people’s shows while developing his own projects.”

Indeed, within days of Fox’s decision to shut down production on “Standoff,” studio shifted Silverstein to the Tim Minear-created midseason effort “Drive.” (Minear had earlier worked on “Standoff.”)

“One of the draws of this studio is being able to work with the other writers they have on their roster,” Silverstein said, adding that he and Minear “may create something together in the future.”

Scribe said 20th execs were “supportive the whole way through” the development and production of “Standoff,” which marked Silverstein’s first series order. Skein generated some decent reviews but fell victim to Fox’s inability to launch any new dramas last season.

For now, Silverstein’s focus is on “K-Ville,” though it’s possible he could develop this season as well. He said he’s a fan of genre shows like “Heroes” and could look to explore something in that arena.

Silverstein began his career on the 2000 skein “Invisible Man,” then spent a few years on USA’s “Dead Zone.” He went on to create “Newton,” a Warner Bros.-produced pilot for UPN.

After signing with 20th, he quickly went to work on “The Inside” and later “Bones” before creating “Standoff.”

Silverstein is repped by WMA and Tom Hoberman.
