Exec had been VP of development at VH1
Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun have tapped VH1 exec Matt Hanna to head up alternative development for their NBC Universal-based shingle.Hanna had been at VH1 for nearly a decade, serving as an exec producer on skeins such as “Celebrity Fit Club” and “The World Series of Pop Culture.” He had been VP of development at the cabler since 2005. BermanBraun inked a first-look deal with NBC U this spring and tapped Warner Bros. TV exec Rachel Kaplan to head up scripted television in April. Shingle is already actively working on projects, several of which could be announced in the coming weeks. Berman and Braun issued a joint statement calling Hanna’s hiring a “key step in the evolution” of their company, citing the exec’s relationships and taste. Before ankling NBC, former Peacock entertainment prexy Kevin Reilly had said he would be looking to BermanBraun for some early development. New NBC Entertainment co-chair Ben Silverman said that won’t change under his watch. “Lloyd and Gail are key parts of my strategy and are two people I will be relying on,” he said. “Their ability to spot and land talent is obvious, and Matt Hanna is a prime example.” Before joining VH1 in 1998, Hanna was an associate publisher at Spin magazine.
