Beckham in line for reality show

Former Spice Girl, NBC in talks

The Posh invasion will be televised.

NBC wasn’t talking Tuesday, but after weeks of back-and-forth negotiations, insiders said the Peacock has closed a very rich deal for six episodes of a half-hour unscripted comedic series that will chronicle Victoria “Posh” Beckham’s move to Los Angeles.

Former Spice Girl has come to Hollywood with husband David, who earlier this year signed with Major League Soccer’s L.A. Galaxy.

“American Idol’s” Simon Fuller will exec produce the skein through his 19 Entertainment banner. It’s being targeted for a potential summer bow.

While nobody at NBC was talking, people familiar with the project describe it as genre-busting.

“This show will cross all genres and hopefully will pleasantly surprise a few people,” Fuller said in a statement to Daily Variety.

Each episode will focus on Beckham’s transition to Los Angeles. Skein will explore how one of the most famous women in the world uproots the machinery surrounding her — publicist, stylist, personal assistant, etc. — and brings it across the Pond.

In addition, skein is expected to follow Beckham as she sets up her home in L.A., buying a house or a new car. Some of her U.S. celebrity pals could end up making appearances, though it’s too soon to say for certain who may pop up.

Beckham said she was excited about the project, particularly the chance to work with Fuller again.

“He has so much success around the world with his TV shows and the respect and trust of everybody he works with,” she said. “This show is really something different. It’s pushing the boundaries, and I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people.”

Fuller said interest in a Beckham skein predates her arrival in the States.

“For the past few years, I’ve been inundated with requests to make a show based on Victoria’s real life,” he said. “After much thought, we have finally decided to do it. NBC will be our partners, (and) both (Peacock entertainment prexy) Kevin Reilly and (alternative topper) Craig Plestis have been extremely supportive in allowing us to do something a little different.”

While Fuller is looking to set the show apart from past unscripted skeins, there will be comparisons to shows such as “The Osbournes” or “Newlyweds.” NBC is no doubt hoping that its show, like those past hits, can help redefine the unscripted genre.

Posh skein is also certain to bring plenty of attention to the Peacock — which it could certainly use during the summer.

“The second Victoria and David step foot on U.S. soil, the press is going to go crazy,” said one TV industry insider. “It’s a bit of a flyer, but if they hit it right, there’s a built-in machine” to promote the show.

What’s more, unlike some past celeb shows, the Posh skein won’t have to manufacture a storyline: Her move to L.A. will provide hours of potential drama — and, NBC hopes, some comedy as well.

Skein was packaged by CAA.
