Argentina taps SMP chief

Lopez to head up state company

BUENOS AIRES — Argentina’s government has tapped Gustavo Lopez as prexy of Sistema de Medios Publicos (SMP), the state company that oversees pubcaster Canal 7, effective Nov. 12.

He takes the post after working over the past years as culture minister of Buenos Aires City and head of federal broadcasting regulator Comfer.

Juan Jose Ross, a former senior content evaluation director at Comfer, was named VP of SMP.

The fifth-ranked net in Argentina, Canal 7 is focused on culture programs yet offers strong fictions like “Cuentos de Fontanarrosa” (Stories of Fontanarrosa) and “Cara a cara” (Face to Face). It recently bought rights to air one European Champions League soccer match a week.
