ABC News names senior VP

Kate O'Brian to oversee Radio, news, affiliates

ABC News has tapped Kate O’Brian senior VP for news, a role that will give her broad oversight of several Alphabet news divisions.

O’Brian will oversee newsgathering operations, ABC News Radio, News One, affiliate relations and the Washington bureau. She’ll report to ABC News prexy David Westin, who announced the promotion in an internal email.

Westin said he plans to create an executive editor position under O’Brian. That staffer will have direct oversight of news coverage and assignments. “He or she will be charged with making sure that all of us are getting the information and the resources we need,” Westin said.

Separately, Westin has tapped 14-year ABC News vet Mimi Gurbst to serve as senior producer of “World News With Charles Gibson.” She’ll be responsible for feature stories.
