‘ShowMatch’ beats ‘Brother’ in ratings

Pole-dancing competish brings in auds

BUENOS AIRES — A much hyped pole-dancing competition helped Artear-Canal 13’s “ShowMatch” shimmy past Telefe’s “Big Brother” in the ratings May 28.

“ShowMatch” snared an average 34.8 rating — its highest of the year, as three scantily dressed couples competed during the 10 p.m. to midnight show.

The program, produced by Marcelo Tinelli’s big indie shop Ideas del Sur, outpaced the 14.2 rating delivered by a celebrity version of “Big Brother” on Telefe.

“ShowMatch,” which aired for more than 10 years on Telefe before shifting to Artear last year, has been using segments like dance and ice-skating competitions to juice up the program, bringing on celebrities like former soccer ace Diego Maradona. Telefe still leads in overall audience numbers — but Artear is only about a pole back.
