Radio-Canada suporting local films

Canadian co. handing out $11 million

Canuck pubcaster Radio-Canada, the French-language sister network to the CBC, is set to dole out C$12 million ($11 million) to support Canuck pics in the next three years, Radio-Canada senior VP Sylvain Lafrance said Tuesday. This is significant coin for Canadian film given the industry’s chronic lack of cash.

The money will be allocated in several ways: to help produce fiction features and documentaries, to aid development of pics, for the acquisition of pics, and for the promotion of Canadian films. All of the films that receive Radio-Canada cash will air on the network.
