Notable alumni of <I>Variety's</I> 10 Producers to Watch

Breakthrough pics: “L.I.E.,” “Transamerica”
• Duo co-produced 2006 Sundance and Venice kudos winner “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints” and just wrapped on Michael Haneke’s English-language debut, a remake of his 1997 thriller “Funny Games” starring Naomi Watts for Warner Independent. Next up “On the Hook,” an indie thriller with 2007 Tony Award winner Frank Langella.

Breakthrough pic: “Nine Lives”
• After Brad Silberling’s 2006 pic “10 Items or Less,” Lynn took on Robin Swicord’s “The Jane Austen Book Club,” which unspools at Toronto this year. Pic, a romantic drama adapted from Karen Joy Fowler’s bestselling novel, was optioned by Sony Pictures Classics and hits theaters this fall. Lynn most recently reteamed with “Nine Lives” helmer-writer Rodrigo Garcia on his latest pic, “Passengers,” a drama that’s now in post for Mandate and Sony. She’s also raising funds for several new films, including another with Garcia.

Breakthrough pic: “Maria Full of Grace”
• Exec produced Sundance 2006 fave “Half Nelson” and is currently working again with “Nelson” filmmakers Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden on “Sugar.” Mezey also reteams with helmer Joshua Marston on “The Fortress of Solitude.” Pic is adapted from the eponymous novel by Jonathan Lethem.

Breakthrough pic: “The Station Agent”
• After producing Gregg Araki’s “Mysterious Skin” in 2004, Skalski worked on Nicole Kidman-starrer “Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus” (2006). She recently reteamed with “Station Agent” director-writer Thomas McCarthy on “The Visitor,” which will premiere at Toronto and stars Richard Jenkins. In 2004, Skalski took home the Indie Spirit Award producers kudo for “Station Agent” and “The Jimmy Show” as well as the John Cassavetes kudo for “Agent,” which she shared with McCarthy and producers Robert May and Kathryn Tucker.

Breakthrough pic: “Lovely and Amazing”
• After making the Variety list in 2002, Bregman went on to produce “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” In 2006, he shared an Indie Sprit nom for best first feature for Mike Mills’ “Thumbsucker.” Currently he is producing Charlie Kaufman’s directorial debut “Synecdoche, New York” and will reteam with “Lovely and Amazing” writer-director Nicole Holofcener’s untitled 2008 project.

Breakthrough pic: “Traffic”
• Bickford was nommed for the picture Oscar for “Traffic” after making Variety’s list. She went on to work for Bill Pohlad’s River Road Prods., producing “Fur” and exec producing 2007 Sundance opener “Chicago 10.” She’s in production on Steven Soderbergh’s long-awaited Che Guevara double feature “The Argentine” and “Guerrilla,” which both star Benicio Del Toro.

Breakthrough pic: “Election”
• After “Election,” Yerxa and Berger went on to produce “Cold Mountain” (2003). The duo recently produced “Little Children” and “Little Miss Sunshine.” They took home Indie Spirit and PGA best feature kudos for the latter. On their slate is Allan Loeb-scripted “The Only Living Boy in New York”; “The Abstinence Teacher,” another pic with “Sunshine” helmers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris; and the Farrelly brothers’ project “Baster.”

Breakthrough pic: “Run Lola Run”
• After producing Tom Tykwer’s “Run Lola Run,” Arndt worked with the helmer again on “The Princess and the Warrior” and in 2002 on Cate Blanchett starrer “Heaven” via their shingle X-Filme. In 2003, Arndt produced Wolfgang Becker’s “Good Bye Lenin!” His latest film is Russian director Sergei Bodrov’s “Mongol,” which will unspool at Toronto. Arndt was nominated for two BAFTA Awards in 2000 and 2004 for “Run Lola Run” and “Good Bye Lenin!” respectively.

Breakthrough pic: “I Know What You Did Last Summer”
• Moritz has nearly 70 producing credits to his name today. He followed up his teen hit “I Know” with a sequel. He made 1999’s “Cruel Intentions,” and saw boffo returns for Rob Cohen’s “The Fast and the Furious” in 2001. He worked with Cohen again on “Triple X” while also producing films such as “Sweet Home Alabama.” He’s now working on at least a half dozen pics, with Will Smith starrer “I Am Legend” among them in post.
