NBC Universal ups Roth, Sanders

Pope makes cardinal hires

New NBC Universal TV Studio prexy Katherine Pope has lined up her lieutenants, promoting Elisa Roth to head drama, and Vernon Sanders to lead laffers.

Both execs now sport senior VP titles. Roth takes the gig vacated by Laura Lancaster, who is expected to join Fox (Daily Variety, June 8). Sanders replaces Shelley McCrory, who recently departed the studio as well.

Both execs report to Pope, who announced the promotions Monday. She said Roth and Sanders boast “strong relationships, focus and drive.”

Both will oversee all development and current series creative affairs for their respective departments.

Roth had served as VP of drama for NBC Universal TV Studio since June 2004; while there, she has overseen shows such as “Heroes” and “Friday Night Lights.” Before that she, was VP for predecessor Universal Network TV, helping develop shows such as Fox’s “House.”

Roth’s resume includes stints at David E. Kelley Prods. and CAA.

As for Sanders, the exec has served as VP of comedy series at NBC U TV Studio since June 2004; he recently developed the new CW laffer “Aliens in America” (which is no longer an NBC U TV Studio show).

He came to the combined NBC Universal studio from Universal Network TV, which he joined in 2002.

Sanders previously worked with Nuance Prods. and Wind Dancer Prods.
