National Geographic creates division

Entertainment unit to incorporate movies, kids, etc

National Geographic has created a new entertainment unit that will incorporate National Geographic’s Cinema Ventures, Feature Films, Kids Entertainment, Home Entertainment and Music & Radio divisions.

David Beal, who was tapped as president of National Geographic’s’ music and video unit earlier this year, will now head the entertainment arm.

While serving as president of the music and video unit, Beal launched Nat Geo Music cable channel in Europe and the upcoming distribution of “U2 3D” feature film.

Before joining National Geographic, Beal was president of Palm Pictures, where he oversaw the creative division, which included DVD and interactive technology.
