“Dharma & Greg” co-creator Dottie Dartland Zicklin has signed on to reunite with Jenna Elfman and exec produce the thesp’s new ABC laffer.
Dartland Zicklin will serve as showrunner on “Literary Superstar,” which stars Elfman as a book publicist. Sony Pictures TV-based Darren Star is also exec producing, along with Matt Reilly, who penned the pilot (Daily Variety, March 12).
As part of Dartland Zicklin’s involvement, ABC Studios will now co-produce “Literary Superstar” along with Sony Pictures TV. Dartland Zicklin is in the middle of an overall pact at ABC Studios; she’s been assigned to “Literary Superstar” as part of the deal.
In the project, Elfman plays a book publicist who’s intensely loyal to her clients. When budget cuts threaten her publishing house, she stands up to the corporate suits — and successfully lobbies for the right to continue working with smaller, quirkier authors.
In addition to focusing on different authors each week, skein will explore Elfman’s character as she pursues love and happiness.
Comedy is set to go into production this fall. Best known for “Dharma & Greg,” Elfman was last seen in the Eye laffer “Courting Alex.”
Dartland Zicklin’s credits include “Cybill” and “Grace Under Fire.”
