The great in-gathering of Hollywood celebs and politicians takes place this weekend as the Kennedy Center holds its 30th annual gala, which will honor Martin Scorsese, Steve Martin, Diana Ross, Brian Wilson and pianist Leon Fleisher.
CBS will broadcast Sunday night’s event on Dec. 26. George Stevens Jr. continues for the year as producer.
The Kennedy Honors represent the most important moment of interaction between the worlds of politics and entertainment. Among those attending the gala will be the president and vice president, along with 15 senators, including Ted Kennedy, Patrick Leahy and Saxby Chambliss, several Supreme Court justices including Steven Breyer, and cabinet officers including the secretaries of state, treasury and homeland security.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also will be in attendance. The names of the stars speaking on behalf of the honorees are not revealed until after the gala, but the list usually includes some of Hollywood’s most eminent and influential figures. Those attending the gala include Robert De Niro, Cameron Diaz, Aretha Franklin and Kristin Chenoweth.
