The Hallmark Movie Channel will create an HD clone of itself, beginning in the first quarter.
Henry Schleiff, president and CEO of Crown Media Holdings, the parent company of Hallmark Channel and its all-movie sibling, said the HD simulcast “is in direct response to the growing demand for family-friendly content on television today.”
Hallmark Movie Channel schedules a mix of rerun movies and miniseries, with a stress on pictures that stay within the limits of a PG rating. Many of the movies are repeats of pictures commissioned originally by the Hallmark Channel.
Citing SNL/Kagan, Hallmark said that “nearly 50% of all homes with cable or satellite television will have HD sets by the end of 2007.”
