Endemol rip-off bites dust

Maltese courts back Dutch giant

LONDON —The Maltese courts have ruled in favor of Endemol in a case involving what the producer claims is a rip-off of “Big Brother.”

The Dutch-based entertainment giant claims that Maltese show “L-iSpjun” breaches its copyright and is demanding damages from those responsible.

Wim Hoen, intellectual property rights manager at Endemol International said: “We’re delighted with the Maltese courts’ decision which fully vindicates our view that this production was in breach of our rights.

“We hope this sends a clear message that this kind of infringement will not be tolerated and will be acted upon.”

The copycat skein aired on Malta’s national television station, TVM, and Melita Cable TV.
