Carey has some formidable tasks this fall beyond just learning the rules of Plinko.
The new host of CBS’ stalwart gameshow “The Price Is Right” must find a way to make the show his own while filling the shoes of beloved former host Bob Barker, who fronted the program for 35 years.
In the ratings race, the older-skewing “Price” routinely wins its timeslot while leading off the Eye’s No. 1 daytime block. Carey will be expected to hang on to those viewers while adding younger auds. And he’ll have to do that while facing a revamped “The View.” Whoopi Goldberg joined the gabfest, which is skedded opposite “Price” in most major cities, on Sept. 4.
Moreover, Carey will have to do all this while pulling double duty. The comedian caught the attention of “Price” producers as host of the net’s primetime quizzer “Power of 10.” Ratings for that show, while not spectacular, were respectable enough that the show was picked up for fall.
Even with these challenges, it seems the affable Carey is right for “Price.”
