TV’s love affair with feature helmers continues as Stephen Frears (“The Queen”) and Michael Lehmann (“Because I Said So”) have both signed on to direct pilots.
Frears, nommed for an Oscar this season, will direct and exec produce the CBS drama pilot “Skip Tracer.” Stephen Dorff is starring in and exec producing the CBS Paramount Network TV hour from scribes Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess (“The Sopranos”).
Green and Burgess are also exec producing, along with Tucker Tooley.
“Skip Tracer” has Dorff playing a Culver City-based rogue who locates missing people. Project stemmed from a talent holding and development deal CBS inked with Dorff last year.
Lehmann, meanwhile, has agreed to direct ABC’s 20th Century Fox TV-produced comedy “Family of the Year.” Laffer, from scribes Erica Rivinoja and Pam Brady, is about a small-town clan that suddenly finds itself with competish for title of the most perfect family.
Helmer’s other credits range from “Heathers” to “40 Days and 40 Nights.” On the TV side, he’s directed skeins including “The Comeback” and “CSI.”
