Company buys rights to board game for series

Debmar-Mercury has bought worldwide TV rights to Hasbro’s Trivial Pursuit board game and plans to turn it into a daily syndicated series to kick off next fall.

Proposed series “Trivial Pursuit: America Plays” will feature interactive elements, said Mort Marcus, co-prexy of Debmar-Mercury. People will be able to upload video of themselves asking a trivia question and email it to the local TV station’s website for transmission to the producers of the game. If a viewer-submitted question is used on the show, and the contestant fails to answer it, the producers will reward the viewer with cash prizes.

Veteran gameshow producers Burt Wheeler and Sharon Sussman (“Sale of the Century,” “Scrabble”) will work on the syndicated “Pursuit.”

Marcus and his partner Ira Bernstein engineered the deal with Phil Jackson, group executive for Hasbro Games.
