Montreal to share laughs with Ontario
MONTREAL — The Montreal Just for Laughs Festival confirmed Wednesday that it will bring its comedy festival to Toronto for the first time this summer.
The inaugural Toronto Just for Laughs festival will run July 26-28 and include six Gala shows and a slew of free outdoor events to be held at Yonge-Dundas Square. Details of the programming have yet to be announced.
The idea is to hold an annual festival in Toronto, though organizers say it will not be a carbon copy of the Montreal fest, which is celebrating its 25th anni this summer.
The Ontario Ministry of Tourism will kick in C$400,000 ($344,000) to support the Toronto event.
Also Wednesday, Just for Laughs announced that “Deal or No Deal” host Howie Mandel will return to the Montreal festival to host two Galas July 18 and 19.
