Lauren Corrao has been upped to prexy of original programming and development at Comedy Central.
Corrao — the exec who helped launch “The Sarah Silverman Show,” “Reno 911!” and “Chappelle’s Show” — will continue to be in charge of all original programming for the laugh-focused cabler, while also overseeing the net’s talent/events staff and the Comedy Central Records label. She reports to MTV Networks Entertainment Group prexy Doug Herzog, who announced the promotion Tuesday.
“Lauren has been the architect of some of our most successful series and has been instrumental in Comedy Central’s phenomenal growth,” Herzog said, noting the cabler’s third consecutive year of Nielsen growth.
Corrao will manage Comedy Central’s New York and L.A. development teams. She’ll remain based in L.A.
Exec has been with Comedy Central since 2002, having previously been a producer based at Touchstone Television (“The Job”). She also spent four years at Fox as VP of comedy development and alternative programming.
