Building a story ark for ‘Evan’

Comedy sequel gets 'Almighty' premiere

HOLLYWOOD — “Evan Almighty” helmer Tom Shadyac had to overcome larger hurdles than scheduling, funding or egos.

“The biggest challenge for me was the lions. They can kill you quicker than any other animal,” Shadyac admitted at Sunday’s premiere at Universal Studios.

For the film, Shadyac orchestrated hundreds of animals and says doing another animal pic is “something I might do in another lifetime.”

But during the carnival style after-party, he did praise many of his furry thesps. “The baboons are the ultimate improv artists. They are like Second City champions.” And how did star, Steve Carell, take to the animals? “He had a blast.”

Also having a blast at the kid-friendly party complete with game booths, face painting and cookie decorating were “Evan” stars Wanda Sykes, Lauren Graham and John Michael Higgins as well as guests Paul Rudd, Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow, Ron Meyer and Jeff Zucker.
