Broadcasters agree on sales pact
BBC Worldwide, the Blighty pubcaster’s commercial arm, has announced its first global clips deal with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV and a major content deal with Aussie pubcaster the ABC.
Under the former, brokered by BBC Motion Gallery, the archive clips sales division of BBC Worldwide, BBC Motion Gallery will distribute clip footage internationally on behalf of CCTV.
The pubcaster said the move represents a further strengthening of ties between Worldwide and the Chinese web.
Meanwhile, the deal inked with the ABC by the Aussie office of BBC Worldwide will bring a wide range of BBC drama and factual series to the Aussie pubcaster.
On the drama side, the ABC will get the local preem of “Jane Eyre,” which drew 7 million viewers in Blighty, as well as new seasons of “Silent Witness” and “Dalziel and Pascoe.”
Meanwhile, new laffer “Jam and Jerusalem,” by Jennifer Saunders, will join two half-hour specials of “Little Britain Abroad,” and the ABC also will screen factual skeins such as Simon Schama’s “The Power of Art” and “Lost Cities of the Ancients,” a BBC/National Geographic Channel/ZDF co-production.
