BBC negotiates ‘Peace’ terms

Universal may take home video rights

Blighty’s Alchemy Television and Italy’s Lux Vide are in negotiations with the BBC on “War and Peace,” the Lux-produced mega skein that world preems today at the RomaFictionFest.

A deal is in the works for Universal to take world homevid rights to the $36 million skein, according to Lux managing director Matilde Bernabei.

Touted as Europe’s biggest co-production in recent years, the Tolstoy adaptation has eight countries as co-production partners and thesps from 10. It toplines Malcolm McDowell and Brenda Blethyn, who is expected in Rome to tubthump the four-part extravaganza shot in Russia and Lithuania.

Alchemy will screen “War and Peace” for U.S. buyers in Los Angeles at the CAA screening room on Wednesday. The RomaFictionFest closes Saturday.
