AMA’s song & dance

Music award show bows in L.A.

HOLLYWOOD — Host Jimmy Kimmel opened up the American Music Awards on Sunday with an obligatory strike joke: “I’m not allowed to write any jokes tonight so I have to entertain you with a dance.”

The comedian then threw on a hoodie and baseball cap and performed a popular hip-hop dance, much to the crowd’s delight.

The first awards show at downtown L.A.’s Nokia Theater was a fittingly over-the-top affair, with pyrotechnics, high-tech moving props and lots of star power.

Beyonce, Fergie, Rihanna and Alicia Keys all performed, though nobody could hear much over the screams of fans.
