NEW YORK — The Africa Channel has hired Eric Brown as exec VP of affiliate sales, in charge of ramping up the network’s subscriber count.
Launched Sept. 1, 2005, the ad-supported Africa Channel has landed only a handful of cable-system deals in Atlanta; Houston; Detroit; New Orleans; Washington, D.C.; Fort Worth, Texas; and a few others. Brown’s tasks will include securing satellite deals with DirecTV and EchoStar, adding more cable systems and striking deals with telcos AT&T and Verizon.
Africa Channel is an English-language network featuring programming produced in Africa such as movies, news, travel/lifestyle, music, soap operas, talkshows and reality shows.
Brown’s previous job was president of Charter Communications’ Western division operations, responsible for more than 1.2 million customers.
