Network greenlights gameshow
ABC is rolling the dice on “Wanna Bet?”
Net has ordered the Gurin Co.-produced gameshow to series, greenlighting six episodes. Production will begin in the next few weeks, most likely for broadcast during the 2007-08 season.
Order reps the third series greenlight for producer Phil Gurin in the past three weeks — a rare feat for an indie shingle such as his Gurin Co. Last month, NBC picked up Gurin’s “Great American Singing Bee,” while CBS just picked up “Do You Trust Me?”
Blighty superstars Ant and Dec — aka Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly — will host “Wanna Bet?” in their U.S. series debut.
Based on a German variety-gameshow from ZDF, “Wanna Bet?” will have contestants gambling on whether they can perform certain stunts. ABC first put the project in development last fall (Daily Variety, Dec. 8).
Gurin (“Weakest Link”) and Marc Jansen serve as exec producers of “Wanna Bet?”
Meanwhile, with three new series in various stages of production — in addition to existing projects such as GSN’s “Lingo” and NBC’s various beauty pageants — Gurin is adding to his exec ranks.
He has tapped Robert Norris to serve as exec in charge of production. Norris’ credits include four seasons of “Last Comic Standing,” two Super Bowl halftime shows and “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.”
Also joining the Gurin Co. is Linda Stricklin-Gilbert, who will serve as VP of business affairs. Her resume includes a stint as VP of business affairs/contract administration for Dick Clark Prods., as well as gigs at Disney and Big Ticket Television.
Gurin is repped by WMA.
