The skinny: Cable’s No. 1 network dominated 2006, thanks in no small part to the channel’s savvy late 2005 acquisition of WWE wrestling’s “Monday Night Raw.” Original scripted series remain USA’s hallmark, however, with “Monk” still shining on Fridays and newcomer “Psych” ending 2006 as the year’s No. 1 new cable show in key demos. And while “American Idol” gets all the headlines, “Nashville Star” remains a power player, ending its most recent season with record numbers. Shooting has just begun for the Miami-set mystery skein “Burn Notice,” and if ratings are good for the sudsy “Starter Wife,” look for it to become a full-time series.
