Dear Editor,

I couldn’t help but notice this jarring and almost unbelievable fact that leapt out of the Emmy telecast during the announcement for the writing award for a variety, music or comedy program: Five shows were nominated with a total of 65 writers being honored, and only four were women. Yes, four. That’s a whopping 6.1% and a shameful statistic. Two shows, “Real Time With Bill Maher” and “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” with a total of 25 writers, have no woman at all on the writing staff. “The Daily Show” and “Late Night With David Letterman” each had one out of 15 writers for each show, and only “The Colbert Report” had more than one, with two women writers out of 10.

Shame on these hosts and producers who continue to show us just how sexist Hollywood can be. I was truly shocked and I still can’t believe it, but it looks like it is still very much the “good-old boys club” on latenight.
