July 12, 1967GOOD MORNING: Marlo Thomas and Dave Wolper are talking a spec, “Young Love In America.” Thomas’ Clairol series co-sponsor wants her to do a youth-associated spec for ‘em … Meanwhile, Marlo and papa Danny worked out ciggie sponsor conflicts so she can appear on his Christmas show, Thomas pere made peace with the two warring smoke signalers by saying, “My daughter and I have been together long before sponsors!” … Marlo’s first Par pic project is to be decided before Oct. What would she like to do? “I don’t want to do what I’m doing on TV for features.” (2007 Update: Marlo Thomas, brother Tony and sister Terre return to Hollywood Oct. 6 for “Variety’s Youth Helping Youth,” which will benefit St. Jude Children’s research Hospital in Memphis. The fund-raising for the hospital was launched in Hollywood in 1962 by dad Danny, the William Morris Agency’s Abe Lastfogel and several showbizness men. The hospital now treats 400 patients a day — all free, including living quarters for the family while the children are hospitalized. The $1.2 billion facility’s funds were raised by the showbiz likes of Jack Benny, Milton Berle, Frank Sinatra, Jan Murray, Dinah Shore, Bob Hope, George Burns, in appearances around the country. Recent additions to the tradition have come from Jennifer Aniston, Robin Williams, Antonio Banderas, Ray Romano, Bernie Mac. Now the younger generation of the Hollywood community will continue the tradition of a commitment to the research for the health of children. Dakota Fanning, Mylie Cyrus, Emma Roberts, Ashley Tisdale, Tyler James Williams, Shawn Pyfrom, Elijah Kelly and Sean Faris — so far — will attend the Oct. 6 event. . Marlo, Terre and Tony told me, “We are thrilled about Variety’s event. Dad would be very happy and we are very proud.” Marlo is the international outreach director of St. Jude’s and Terre and Tony are on the board. And oh yes, Marlo is still in showbiz — and planning to return to the stage in Elaine May’s “Moving Right Along.” She received raves when it bowed in San Francisco last year. Husband (of 27 years) Phil Donahue will soon release his anti-Iraq war doc “A Body Of War.”)
