CCTV-6 renews Oscar broadcast

Chinese channel to air awards show

HONG KONG — China’s CCTV-6 has renewed its multi-year licensing deal with the Walt Disney Company’s Buena Vista Intl. Television-Asia Pacific (BVITV-AP) to broadcast the Academy Awards live.

Deal includes the 30-minute Red Carpet pre-show and continues CCTV-6’s exclusive run in China since 2003.

“CCTV-6 is the first state-owned movie channel to bring the Academy Awards to Chinese viewers through our agreement with BVITV,” said Jia Qi, vice president of CCTV-6. “Considering our long-term strategic relationship with BVITV we are glad to have renewed our multi-year agreement with them.”

CCTV also will air the Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” as part of a separate, multiple movie package deal.
