Asia Pacific Screen Awards honor films

Veteran Indian actress Shabana Azmi injected some glamour into the Asia Pacific Screen Awards at the Sheraton Mirage on Nov. 13.

Azmi presided over the jury for the kudos and was joined on a blue carpet by fellow jurors: Pusan Film Fest founder Kim Dong-ho, Iranian director Jafar Panahi, veteran Brit producer Nik Powell and rebel Chinese filmmaker Tian Zhuangzhuang.

Inaugural event struggled to attract many nominated thesps — with the honorary consul to Turkey accepting Erkan Can‘s kudo for his role in “Takva: A Man’s Fear of God” — but it was well-attended by Oz industryites.

Most of the Aussies were delegates of the annual Screen Producers Assn. of Australia conference which began the following day, and happily partied late into the night.
