Patti Scialfa

Mrs. Bruce Springsteen, who sings about looking for Elvis in Memphis in CD's opener, plops herself down in Elvis Country, navigating the soul and gospel of the state's southwestern end with twangy echoes from Nashville.

Mrs. Bruce Springsteen, who sings about looking for Elvis in Memphis in CD’s opener, plops herself down in Elvis Country, navigating the soul and gospel of the state’s southwestern end with twangy echoes from Nashville.

Sounding more like a meeting of John Hiatt and Bonnie Raitt than anything her husband would do, Scialfa’s coarse vocals partner convincingly with the deep and densely soulful  accompaniment, especially on “Town Called Heartbreak,” “Bad For You” and the album’s winning ballad “Play Around.”
