The sitar-playing daughter of Ravi Shankar teams with keyboardist-drummer- club music composer Karsh Kale to produce an album of electronic beats and washes underneath traditional Indian instrumentation. On tracks in which traditional sounds dominate, the better it gets in this rather mixed bag of an an album. Experiment is at its most successful on a track such as “Ghost Story,” which features Bollywood singer Sunidhi Chauhan, a string orchestra and a sense of space within the recording. (Oddly enough, the sitar is situated deep behind the melody). Ravi appears on two of the disc’s strong tracks; other guests include Anoushka’s half-sister Norah Jones, Sting and Ravi-disciple Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.
