William Morris music ranks grow

Bicknell to run London office

The William Morris Agency is bulking up its international music operation, adding seven agents to the London-based operation.

Ed Bicknell, former manager of Dire Straits and Bryan Ferry, has been named worldwide head of WMA’s international music unit.

“I’ve turned down many offers, but the opportunity to work … at a company I consider No. 1 in the world was irresistible,” Bicknell said.

Agents tapped for the unit are David Levy of ITB; Adele Slater and Russell Warby from the Agency Group; Nick Cave, Steve Hogan and Solomon Parker from Concorde Intl. Artists; and Diana Richardson from Sensible Events. Hamish Crombie, already at WMA, moves over to music. The London office previously had no music agents.

“London was the one major music center where we were not present,” worldwide head of music Peter Grosslight said.

William Morris execs would not disclose the coast of the expansion nor which clients would be moving over to the agency. It is believed WMA will end up with a lineup heavy on rock bands such as Foo Fighters, White Stripes, the Strokes, Jet and the Raconteurs. Other acts likely to move to WMA include Air, Bjork and Take That.

London unit will be integrated with the four Los Angeles-based international music agents: Brian Cohen, Tony Goldring, Rob Markus and Akiko Rogers.
