Viacom and YouTube are fighting over online video, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg … or the legal briefs.
A battle between Universal Music and viral-video startup Veoh spilled into the public last week when Veoh filed a pre-emptive motion seeking judicial approval of its online-video practices. Veoh says UMG has been threatening the firm and wants it to stop; UMG retorts that Veoh is profiting from its copyrighted video.
Of course it’s possible Veoh, which has a new CEO who has vowed to get the firm more attention, just wants some publicity.
Now that would be a different kind of viral campaign.
