The Police widen their net

Band schedule L.A., Oakland shows

After selling out basketball arenas in a matter of minutes, the Police are taking their show to even bigger venues.

The reunited band, which sold out two Madison Square Garden shows and a concert at Boston’s Fenway Park, has inked deals to perform at Dodger Stadium on June 23, McAfee Coliseum in Oakland on June 13 and Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., on Aug. 5. The other 13 dates on their schedule, excluding the Bonnaroo festival, are in basketball arenas.

Meanwhile, another summer reunion tour has been grounded. The Van Halen tour that reunited guitarist Eddie Van Halen with original singer David Lee Roth has been postponed indefinitely.

In Europe, a handful of dates have been announced for the Smashing Pumpkins in June. Shows are slated for Portugal, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.
