Michael Bay jumped back into the hi-def fray, this time with a posting on his website that accuses Microsoft of fanning the format war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD in an attempt to increase digital downloads.
The “Transformers” director even calls it “the dirty secret no one is talking about.”
“Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads,” he wrote.
In fact, he accuses Microsoft of “handing out $100 million checks to studios just to embrace HD-DVD and not the leading, and superior, Blu-Ray.”
Industry sources, however, say Microsoft hasn’t spent any of its own money in the battle.
Bay wrote, a bit cryptically, “Time will tell, and you will see the truth.”
